My Store

Drummond Golf stores work closely with charity groups, local golf clubs and golfers to assist the community and help grow the game. In our continuing series, we look at some of the activies that take place around Australia.

DRUMMOND GOLF FYSHWICK

What do Augusta National and the Gold Creek Country Club in Canberra have in common? At Easter they both hand out green jackets.

So it was that John Hewitt joined Bubba Watson as a green jacket owner when Drummond Golf Fyshwick held its inaugural Masters Monday Par 3 Challenge at Gold Creek.

The day kicked off with 120 players watching the final round of the Masters while enjoying a light breakfast before a shotgun start on the specially designed shortened course which featured some tricky pin placements.

John Hewitt became the first recipient of the Drummond Golf Masters Green Jacket with a nett score of 43. Gold Creek members Gary Urquhart and Sonia Widdowson took out the best scratch and women’s events.

The day concluded with a 100m shootout from a mat at the clubhouse down to the 18th green with $1000 prize on offer for an ace.

Drummond Golf Fyshwick would like to thank everyone involved in making the day happen, especially John Hair and his pro-shop team for their professional running of the event.

Thanks also to the course superintendent Scott Harris and team for setting up the course and having it picture perfect. If you haven’t had a chance recently, do yourself a favour and get out to Gold Creek Country Club for a hit. You won’t walk away disappointed.

DRUMMOND GOLF TOWNSVILLE

When Bowen, a beautiful little town two hours south of Townsville, had its Opening Day for the 2012 golf season, the competition nearly didn’t go ahead after a large downpour the night before.

But that sort of weather is typical of the region and recovery is usually swift. Luckily, there wasn’t too much water lying around so the day went ahead with 80 players in the 4-Ball Stableford event.
Prizes again this year were kindly donated by the Carruthers Family, sponsors of Opening Day for the past 10 years. Winners this year were Neil McInnes and Herb Murray with 49 points and runners-up were John & Dell Alletson with 44 points.
The Bowen Golf Club invited Drummond Golf Townsville to showcase their latest products at the event. Managing Director Kevin Carruthers put on a demo day on the following day for Bowen members to try some of the current equipment.

Drummond Golf Maroochydore

The team at Drummond Golf Maroochydore reckon they have spotted a golfer of the future in 16-year-old Matthew Samen-Curtis.

Matthew recently won the Greg Norman Foundation Pelican Waters Two Day Junior Classic and followed up by finishing second in the Sunshine Coast Open Amateur Championship. He won the junior section of that event by six shots with rounds of 74-69. The Maroochydore store sponsors the Invincibles, the junior golf program of which Matthew is a part, and later in the year he will be doing work experience in the store, furthering his love of the game and his dreams of pursuing a professional career.

"I am a dedicated junior golfer with an ambition to follow in the footsteps of Jason Day and Adam Scott, Greg Norman and many others who both started and developed their careers here on the Coast," he wrote in a letter of thanks after winning the Pelican Waters event.

"The list is endless when I sit and think of what is invested in my development as a golfer. My family have been my major sponsor all the way, and do their best to put me on the right path."
