Tiger Woods inconsistent but positive about Bridgestone Invitational performance

Tiger Woods was erratic throughout the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, but typically chose to focus on the positives of his comeback after almost three months away from competitive golf due to injury.

The former world number one - who has now drifted to 28th and has not won a tournament since 2009 - shot an even-par 70 at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio on Sunday (local time) to close the tournament at one over.

He was 18 shots behind winner Adam Scott and shared 37th place with Australians Geoff Ogilvy and Richard Green among others.

"I had it in spurts," Woods declared, having traded birdies with many bogeys over the four days.

"I hit it really well and then I'd lose it and get it back."

But Woods also added that he was "absolutely encouraged" by his performance given that he was returning after a lack of match practice.

"At home playing money games with my buddies is just not quite the same," he said.

Knee and Achilles tendon problems have hindered Woods since he was forced to pull out of the Players Championship in May, so in many respects this can be seen as a successful, incident-free start on the comeback trail.
