Luke Donald and Lee Westwood fighting for Major respect

World number one Luke Donald and world number two Lee Westwood will enter this week's US PGA Championship in Atlanta as possibly one of the lowest-key pairs to sit atop golf's official rankings at the beginning of a major tournament.

Neither has ever claimed one of the sport's big events - which also includes the US Masters, US Open and British Open - and until they do, the duo will struggle to earn the respect they probably deserve from fans and media alike.

Neither were followed by an overly large or enthusiastic crowd during their practice rounds yesterday (August 9) - certainly not compared to the type of support shown for Tiger Woods in his prime.

And both are listed behind world number four and US Open champion Rory McIlroy in the betting.

"There is more expectation and more pressure at majors," said Donald.

"But you try and treat it like any other event and just go about your business of what you can control."

Westwood had an interesting take on the way his and Donald's success was often viewed.

"Golf seems to be like that," he said.

"Every other sport, if you had England at number one and two in the world, they would be celebrating."
