Spencer Levin is the clear leader after two rounds of the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Arizona, but will be wary of the threat of Harrison Frazar, who is three strokes back and with three holes still to play before reaching the halfway mark of the tournament. A sensational eight-under 63 took Levin to 14 under overall, with the young American’s faultless second round at the TPC Scottsdale course featuring six birdies and a crucial eagle at the par-four 17th. From behind the green at the penultimate hole, Levin holed out of the bunker for a spectacular two that consolidated his place at the top of the leaderboard. “Hopefully, I can just keep trying to believe in myself and just keep trying to make my swing and we'll see what happens," Levin said after his excellent performance on Friday (February 3). "I'm going to give it my best shot. It should be fun. I'm looking forward to it” Frazar reached six under for the round and 11 under the card in total, before play was abandoned for the afternoon due to darkness with the 40-year-old having just completed the 6th hole. He started his round on the back nine and notched five birdies heading out, including three in a row from the 15th. Rookie John Huh and world number six Webb Simpson are in a share of third place at eight under, after second rounds of 66 and 69 respectively. Rebounding from the crushing loss at Torrey Pines last week, Kyle Stanley posted a 66 to be fifth at seven under. Greg Chalmers is the best-placed Australian at five under. |
