Spencer Levin extends lead at Phoenix Open

Spencer Levin remains in firm control of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, having opened up a six-shot lead after three rounds in Arizona.

Levin produced a three-under 68 at TPC Scottsdale on Saturday (January 4) to be 17 under for the tournament.

The only blemish for the 27-year-old American was a bogey at the par-five 15th.

Searching for his maiden victory on the US PGA Tour, Levin has been in excellent form all week in front of massive crowds.

"I felt like I played solid," he said afterwards.

"I felt like I was in control of my ball most of the day, and yeah, I'm pleased."

The tournament's highest-ranked player, Webb Simpson, is outright second at 11 under after a round of 68, while fellow Americans Bubba Watson and John Huh are both ten under.

Greg Chalmers compiled a quality 67 to be the best placed Australian at nine under the card, a position he shares with four other players.

Compatriots Matt Jones and Marc Leishman are in a share of 12th at seven under.
