Gareth Paddison takes Victorian PGA title

New Zealander Gareth Paddison was the victor at Forest Resort Creswick on Sunday (February 19), finishing the tournament at seven under par.

Paddison won the Adroit Insurance Group Victorian PGA Championship by establishing a three-shot lead after the first three rounds of golf and holding on just enough to triumph in the final round.

Australian Leighton Lyle trailed the winner by a mere stroke, causing some stress toward the end.

Paddison told PGA reporters: "It was a real dog fight in the end to cross the finish line. I am just glad that I did it and you know, you can put it all down to experience I guess, it was really encouraging sign that I can still finish off a tournament."

James McLean also put pressure on Paddison, staying on his heels the whole day but missing some key shots on a few of the later holes.

Marcus Cain, Peter O’Malley, Andre Stolz and David McKenzie shared third place at five under par.

Next week Paddison will defend his title at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship, coming off a fresh win as he travels to Toowoomba.
