2024 Drummond Golf Cup Final
A Dramatic Finish to the 2024 Drummond Golf Cup Final
The 2024 Drummond Golf Cup Final brought together 14 Australian amateur golfers, seven men and seven women, at the stunning Peninsula Kingswood Country Club on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. These state champions, hailing from across the country, gathered for an unforgettable two-day celebration of golf, camaraderie, and sporting excellence.
The finalists were treated to an incredible experience. From the moment they arrived, they were immersed in the luxury of Peninsula Kingswood’s world-class facilities, including superb on-site accommodation, exquisite meals, and, of course, two of the most immaculate golf courses in the nation. The event features a dinner and lunch presentations that added an extra touch of prestige to this special occasion.
The golf itself was nothing short of breathtaking, played in challenging conditions that kept spectators (well, Brett Ogle) and players alike on edge. Both the men's and women's individual stableford finals were decided in dramatic fashion—so closely contested that nothing could separate the champions.
**The Women’s Title: A Clash of Youth and Experience**
In the women's final, Mia Luey, a 14-year-old rising star from South Australia, and Claire Miller, the reigning ACT State Champion, tied with 27 stableford points apiece. Luey, who plays off a 5.9 handicap at Kooyong Golf Club, demonstrated composure and skill beyond her years. Meanwhile, Miller, a member at Yowani Golf Club with a handicap of 12.9, brought experience and determination to the competition. Both players earned the honor of being crowned joint 2024 Drummond Golf Cup Women’s Champions.
**The Men’s Title: Grit and Consistency**
The men’s competition was equally thrilling, with Moe Khodragha and Ashley de Thierry both carding impressive rounds in blustery winds to finish tied at 34 stableford points. Khodragha, representing Concord Golf Club in NSW and playing off a 5.7 handicap, displayed precision and resilience throughout the round. De Thierry, from Helensvale Golf Club near Brisbane, overcame the conditions with an inspiring performance, proving that a 14.3 handicap is no barrier to excellence on the big stage. The pair shared the joint 2024 Drummond Golf Cup Men’s Champion title.
**Brett Ogle Shines Once Again**
Adding a touch of humor and personality to the event was golf legend Brett Ogle, whose infectious enthusiasm entertained the fields at both the state and national levels throughout the year. His presence brought a sense of community and celebration to the tournament, making the experience even more memorable for the competitors.
As the sun set over Peninsula Kingswood, the 2024 Drummond Golf Cup came to a close, leaving our 14 finalists and their guests with memories of an extraordinary tournament filled with excitement, sportsmanship, and a shared love for the game.
Here’s to the 2025 Drummond Golf Cup season—we can’t wait to see more of our golfing community take part in what has become one of Australia’s most anticipated amateur golfing events!
