Casey Claims Milestone Win in Dubai
England’s Paul Casey notched his 15th European Tour title at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The victory marks the 350th win for English players on the European Tour.
"I'm all emotional with wins, but this one is such a prestigious event," he said after the victory. "I'm so over the moon. Not just 15, the fact it's Dubai. It's an iconic event on the European Tour. One of the coolest trophies around.”
Casey, aged 43, started the final round one shot clear of Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre. He extended the lead to three shots at the turn after back-to-back birdies at the 3rd and 4th holes in an outward nine of 35. Casey birdied the 11th and 13th holes to enjoy a five shot lead with five holes to play. He signed for a final round 2-under 70 to reach 17-under and finish four shots ahead of South Africa’s Brandon Stone.
Stone carded four birdies on the back nine to claim second place at 13-under. MacIntyre struggled on Sunday with a 2-over 74 leaving him in third place at 12-under.
Defending champion Lucas Herbert moved up seven places on the final day with his 1-under 71 elevating him to T22.
