Lauren Coughlin in enjoying a breakout LPGA Tour season. The 31-year-old American fired a 3-under 69 on Sunday to win the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links, Scotland. It was her second career LPGA Tour victory in just three starts. Coughlin scored her maiden LPGA Tour title at the CPKC Women’s Open in July. She joins Nelly Korda and Hannah Green as the only players to capture multiple wins this season on the LPGA Tour.
Coughlin produced rounds of 69, 69, 66 and 69 to reach 15-under to finish four shots clear of Germany’s Esther Henseleit.
Henseleit, who won the Silver Medal at the Paris Olympic Games, claimed her second consecutive runner up finish in as many weeks. The two-time winner on the LET closed with a 2-under 70 to get to 11-under.
Japan’s Ayaka Furue and America’s Megan Khang took a share of third place at 9-under. Furue fired the equal low round on Sunday with a bogey-free 4-under 68. At one point mid-way through her back nine, her flawless round moved her to within three shots of Coughlin. Khang produced a 2-over 74.
England’s Charley Hull claimed solo fifth place one shot further back at 8-under after her final round 1-over 73.
Gabriela Rufflels was the best-placed Australian finishing in a tie for sixth place at 7-under. The 24-year-old climbed the leaderboard on Sunday matching Furue with the low round of the day with a 68. Korea’s Jin Young Ko joined Ruffels in a tie for sixth place.
The LPGA Tour remains in Scotland for next week’s AIG Women’s Open to be staged at St Andrews. America’s Lilia Vu is the defending champion.
