PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS
Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS
Fabulous Phil PGA Tour Champion…Again!
Phil Mickelson outlasted Miguel Angel Jimenez to win the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS by two shots. It was the 51-year-old’s third win on the PGA Tour Champions in just his fourth career start.
Mickelson, who collected ‘W’s’ at his first two attempts on the Senior’s Tour, produced rounds of 66, 67 and 68 to reach 15-under. The six-time major champion held a narrow one-shot advantage over Jimenez with one hole to play. ‘Phil the Thrill’ closed out his latest win in style knocking his approach to the final green within seven feet of the cup. He calmly walked in his birdie putt to earn the inaugural title by two shots.
Jimenez finished outright second at 13-under. The crafty 57-year-old Spaniard went bogey-free over his closing 37 holes. Jimenez, a 10-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions, fired rounds of 70, 65 and 68.
American Steve Flesch claimed outright third place at 10-under after closing out the final round with two birdies at the last three holes. Flesch staked a narrow one-shot advantage over three players. Tournament host Jim Furyk, Cameron Beckman and Ernie Els finished at 9-under and in a share of fourth place.
Rod Pampling was the best of six Australians in the field. The 52-year-old Queenslander, who won his maiden PGA Tour Champions event in August, ended at 2-under and in a tie for 38th position.
