Driving Drill Hip To Be Square Too much lateral body movement during your backswing will result in a lack of power and accuracy.
Here’s a drill to help you make the correct hip turn and deliver your driver square to the ball at impact.
Practise with an umbrella or shaft angled into the ground so it’s just touching your right hip (right-handed golfers) or left hip (left-handed golfers) when you take your address position. The objective is to make your backswing turning your hip without nudging the umbrella or shaft. If your hip sways, you will move the umbrella or shaft.
You don’t have the luxury of a training aid on the course so try turning your hips within an imaginary cylinder the width of your stance.
