Gooch Makes LIV Golf History in Spain
Talor Gooch buried a 15-foot birdie putt on the final green for victory at LIV Andalucia. The stirring win at Valderrama, Spain was the 31-year-old’s third LIV title this season. Gooch scored wins in Australia and Singapore in back-to-back starts during April. The American becomes the first player in the Tour’s 15-event history to reach three individual victories.
Gooch fired a final round 4-under 67 to reach 12-under and outlast compatriot Bryson DeChambeau by one shot. The big-hitting American took a one-shot lead into Sunday. DeChambeau, who was chasing his maiden LIV title, carded a 2-under 69 final round to get to 11-under. His runner up performance eclipses his best LIV Golf result, which was 7th at LIV Tulsa this season.
Reigning PGA champion Brooks Koepka claimed third place at 9-under. The five-time major winner closed with a 3-under 68. Sebastian Munoz collected fourth place at 6-under after signing for a 3-under 68.
Cameron Smith was the best-placed Australian. The former world No. 2 finished in 12th place after closing with an even par round for a 1-under total. The popular Queenslander will defend the Open Championship this month at Royal Liverpool.
Torque Golf Club earned victory in the team competition reaching 16-under. The Joaquin Niemann led team outplayed Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats Golf Club by four shots.
LIV Golf moves to the UK for next week’s LIV London to be staged at Centurion Club in Hertfordshire. South Africa’s Charlie Schwartzel is the defending champion.
