Hataoka Wins LA Open. Aussie Green Runner Up

Japan’s Nasa Hataoka scored an emphatic five-stroke win at the LA Open. The 23-year-old closed the event with a superb 4-under 67. Her 15-under tally was just one shot off the tournament record set last year by Canada’s Brooke Henderson. Australia’s Hannah Green finished runner up at 10-under.

Hataoka covered her first seven holes on Sunday 3-under with four birdies and one bogey. Then, after a string of seven consecutive pars, the world No. 12 made an eagle at the 15th hole to race away to a six shot advantage. Staged at Wilshire Country Club, Hataoka was the only player in the field to fire all four rounds in the 60s. It was her sixth LPGA Tour victory.

Green, aged 25, was searching for her third LPGA Tour title and first win since the 2019 Cambia Portland Classic. The former Women’s PGA champion enjoyed a 3-under 68 on Sunday to reach 10-under.

Fellow Aussie Minjee Lee, Korea’s Inbee Park and Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom were three shots further back at 7-under in a share of third place.
