Hatton Wins Record Third Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Tyrrell Hatton has made history by becoming the first-ever three-time winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The English golfer first claimed the title in 2016, defended it in 2017, and came close again with runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2021. However, this year he solidified his place in tournament history with a dramatic one-shot victory at 24 under par on the Old Course at St Andrews.

Hatton had surged into a one-shot lead on Saturday after equalling the course record, and by Sunday, he extended his advantage to three strokes after four birdies in his first 11 holes. But as the Scottish weather turned, so did the competition. A double bogey on the 13th and a bogey on the 14th saw Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts draw level with Hatton with just three holes remaining.

With pressure mounting, Hatton managed to dig deep and birdied the final hole to secure his third Alfred Dunhill Links title. Colsaerts, who came close to forcing a playoff, narrowly missed his own birdie attempt on the 18th, handing Hatton a one-shot victory.

Reflecting on the win, an emotional Hatton said, "It feels good. It's actually the first tournament I have won with my dad here, and to do it at the home of golf is really special. I'm trying not to cry, I'm a bit lost for words."

Hatton’s ability to stay calm despite late-round nerves was pivotal. "When I double bogeyed 13 and bogeyed 14, I didn’t realise I was still in and around the lead," he said. "I just tried my best on every shot coming in."

Colsaerts’ consistency throughout the round, including a clutch birdie on the 15th, kept the pressure on Hatton, but the Belgian fell just short. Tommy Fleetwood finished third at 21 under, with David Puig, Robin Williams, and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen tying for fourth at 19 under.

Hatton’s victory not only etched his name in the record books but also booked him a spot at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
