Ken Duke Claims Maiden PGA TOUR Champions Win

Ken Duke produced a birdie at the final hole to win the Shaw Charity Classic by one shot in Canada. The narrow victory over Thongchai Jaidee and Tim Petrovic was the 54-year-old American’s maiden PGA TOUR Champions title in his 100th start.

Duke opened the week with rounds of 66 and 64 to sit two shots behind 36-hole leader Petrovic with one round to play. The tour veteran of nearly 30 years covered the front nine on Sunday in 1-under with three birdies and two bogeys. Duke, who collected one PGA Tour title at the 2013 Travelers Championship, settled into a winning rhythm on the back nine with three unanswered birdies at the 13th, 15th and 18th holes. He closed with a 4-under 66 to reach 14-under.

Jaidee and Petrovic finished one shot back at 13-under in joint second place. Jaidee from Thailand produced the low round of the final day with a superb 8-under 62. America’s Petrovic carded a 1-under 69. Former Open champion Darren Clarke took a share of fourth place at 11-under with Billy Andrade and Scott Dunlap.

Richard Green was the best-placed Australian. The 52-year-old from Melbourne signed for a 6-under 64 to get to 8-under and finish in a tie for 12th place.

Duke jumps from 40th to 21st position on the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
