Langer Wins Schwab Cup. Triumph for Tour Edge
Germany’s Bernhard Langer has won a record sixth Charles Schwab Cup. The coveted title was awarded to the 64-year-old golfing legend after he headed the points table at the completion of the 39-event PGA Tour Champions 2020/21 wrap-around season. The ageless wonder narrowly outlasted Jim Furyk. The 51-year-old American needed an eagle at the final hole of the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship to take the Schwab Cup from Langer. Furyk managed a par leaving Langer to win the Cup for the fifth time in seven years.
Langer played in all 39 events on the PGA Tour Champions. The Hall of Famer, who signed a multiyear agreement with leading golf manufacturer Tour Edge earlier this year was both a model of success and great consistency this season. The tour veteran scored two wins, 24 top 10s, finished 34 times inside the top 25 and made the cut at every event. He won the Cologuard Classic where he fired 18-under over three rounds. And, he claimed the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in October becoming the oldest player in history to win on the PGA Tour Champions. It was his 42nd victory on the PGA Tour Champions.
Spain’s Miguel Angle Jimenez finished third in the Charles Schwab Cup points race. South Africa’s Ernie Els ended in fourth place leaving America’s Jerry Kelly to round out the top five. Rod Pampling was the best-placed Australian ending the season in 19th place.
Langer’s win at the 2020/21 Schwab Cup means Tour Edge staff players own back-to-back Schwab cup titles. Fellow Tour Edge staffer Scott McCarron was victorious in 2019/20. Tour Edge enjoys a prominent presence on the PGA Tour Champions with the likes of Tom Lehman, Ken Duke and Duffy Waldorf joining McCarron and Langer kitted with the brand’s gear.
This year’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship featured six golfers out of 34 playing Tour Edge, with four finishing inside the top 20. Since 2018 on the PGA Tour Champions, Tour Edge boasts 13 wins, 24 runner-ups and has been in the bag for a 1st or 2nd place finish 37 times in the last 81 events (45%).
