QBE Shootout

Leishman and Day Third at The Shark’s Event

Kevin Na and Jason Kokrak scored a come-from-behind win to claim the QBE Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club in Florida. Hosted by Greg Norman, the 33rd staging of the unofficial PGA Tour event was contested by 12 two-player teams over 54 holes.

Australians Marc Leishman and Jason Day commanded a three-shot lead going into the final round after firing an 8-under 64 in the modified alternate shot format on Saturday. Three pairs were tied for second place and still in the mix. Harris English and Matt Kuchar were searching for their fourth QBE Shootout title. Billy Horschel teamed up with Sam Burns. Burns was playing in the event for the first time. And, Na and Kokrak remained in the hunt after they posted a 64 on Saturday.

Sunday’s final round format was fourball. Na and Kokrak fell to five shots off the lead after a bogey at the fifth hole. The error sparked a dramatic fight back with the pair making 12 birdies over the final 13 holes including running off nine consecutive birdies from the sixth hole. Na poured in seven birdies in a row during the blitz. Kokrak finished off the event holing a six-foot birdie putt at the final green for a final round 12-under 60 to reach 33-under.

Na and Kokrak overcame Horschel and Burns by one shot. Horschel and Burns fired a final round 11-under 61 that included Horschel chipping in for a birdie at the hole from near the water hazard.

Defending champions English and Kuchar finished a shot further back and in a tie for third place with Leishman and Day.
