Luke List Earns Maiden PGA Tour Title. Day Third.

America’s Luke List scored his first win on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The 37-year-old joins Jon Rahm (2017) as the only players to produce their maiden PGA Tour win at the Farmers Open. List, who joined the PGA Tour in 2013, overcame compatriot Will Zalatoris with a birdie at the first playoff hole after he knocked his approach shot from 131 yards to inside one foot of the cup.

Spain’s Rahm, America’s Cameron Tringale and Australia’s Jason Day finished one shot out of the playoff and in joint third place.

List started the final round five shots behind 54-hole co-leaders Zalatoris and Day. He made up ground early in his round with four straight birdies from the 3rd hole. He produced another birdie at the 12th hole when he holed out his greenside bunker shot. List finished his day with birdies at the 16th and 18th holes and his solo final round bogey at the 17th hole. The world No. 151 carded 6-under 66 to reach 15-under.

Zalatoris, aged 25, made a nervous start in pursuit of his maiden PGA Tour win with a bogey at the opening hole. The 2021 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year rebounded with back-to-back birdies at the 5th and 6th holes. Zalatoris, who finished runner-up at the 2021 Masters behind Hideki Matsuyama, completed his final round with 12 consecutive pars to sign for a 1-under71 and sit at 15-under joining List in the playoff.

Top ranked Rahm, who has won twice at Torrey Pines including last year’s US Open, produced a 1-under 71 that included four birdies and three bogeys.

Day found himself in a share of the lead at the 14th hole when he holed out for an eagle at the par 4, from 118 yards. The 34-year-old Aussie was looking for his third Farmers Insurance Open title. The former world No. 1 lost hope for his first victory on the PGA Tour since 2018 when he made bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes.

The PGA Tour remains in California for next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. America’s Daniel Berger is the defending champion.
