Minjee Lee Wins Founders Cup

Australia’s Minjee Lee returned to the winner’s circle after scoring victory at the Cognizant Founders Cup by two shots. The 25-year-old Australian outlasted America’s Lexi Thompson for her seventh LPGA Tour title and first win since claiming her maiden major at the Evian Championship in July 2021.

Lee fired rounds of 67, 63, 69 and 70 at Upper Montclair Country Club in New Jersey to get to 19-under. The 2018 Greg Norman Medalist covered the front nine in 1-over to hold a narrow one-shot lead over Thompson into the back nine. Thompson birdied the 10th hole to join Lee in the lead. Lee moved clear by one shot with a birdie at the par 5, 14th hole. The young Western Australian birdied the final hole to secure her two-shot victory at 19-under.

Thompson was looking for her first win on the LPGA Tour since 2019. The 27-year-old carded a bogey-free final round 3-under 69 to get to 17-under.

Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom and America’s Angel Yin finished at 16-under and in a tie for third place. Sagstrom signed for a final round even par 72 that included a quadruple bogey at the 3rd hole. Yin fired a 5-under 67 that included seven birdies.

With her win, Lee advances to 13 places to lead the Race To CME Globe.
