Patton Kizzire Wins PGA Tour Season-Opener At The Procore Championship
Patton Kizzire snapped a lengthy winless streak on Sunday, clinching the Procore Championship with a gritty performance. The American’s 2-under 70 final round secured a commanding five-shot victory and set a new tournament record at the FedExCup Fall opener. This was Kizzire's first win in 176 starts, a streak dating back to his back-to-back victories in Mexico and Hawaii between 2017 and 2018.
The 38-year-old, who came into the tournament ranked 132nd in the FedExCup standings, needed a top-125 finish to retain his PGA TOUR card. His victory not only achieved that goal but also earned him coveted spots in prestigious events, including the Masters, the PGA Championship, and The Sentry at Kapalua.
Kizzire finished the tournament with an impressive 20-under 268, despite battling inconsistent tee shots over the final two days. On Sunday, his drive faltered multiple times—missing 11 fairways and landing in bunkers on three occasions. Nevertheless, his approach game remained solid, and he managed three birdies, an eagle, and three bogeys.
Kizzire's closest competitor, David Lipsky, finished five shots behind after carding a 71. Lipsky, too, struggled with the windy conditions and firm greens. Despite Lipsky closing the gap to two strokes early on with birdies at Nos. 1 and 4, Kizzire responded with an eagle on the par-5 fifth. After overshooting the green, Kizzire made a brilliant wedge shot from 50 feet to extend his lead to 20-under. Though he bogeyed the 11th after another errant tee shot, he recovered with a birdie save from a greenside bunker on the 12th and continued his strong play with another birdie on the 13th.
Heading into the final stretch, Kizzire solidified his lead with a birdie on No. 15, putting him five strokes ahead. Despite a missed par putt on No. 16 and another missed opportunity on 17, Kizzire held steady to claim the long-awaited victory.
American Patrick Fishburn claimed solo third place at 14-under after producing a 1-under 71 final round. Canadian duo Ben Silverman and Mackenzie Hughes took a share of 4th place at 13-under with American Greyson Sigg.
Min Woo Lee was the best-placed Australian. Lee finished in a tie for 32nd place at 7-under.
