Robert MacIntyre Tops Adam Scott To Win Scottish Open
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre produced a dramatic final hole birdie to win the Scottish Open. MacIntyre, aged 27, drained his birdie attempt from 22 feet at the 72nd hole to overcome Australia’s Adam Scott by one shot at The Renaissance Club. The popular win in front of home fans set off a fist-pumping celebration by the local lad, who was denied the same excitement by Rory McIlroy’s heroics at the final hole one year ago.
MacIntyre scored his second PGA TOUR victory in his last five starts after signing for a 3-under 67 final round. The superb score on Sunday featured an eagle at the 16th hole to move into the joint lead.
Scott was looking for his first PGA TOUR win since claiming the 2020 Genesis Invitational. His runner up finish eclipses his previous best result on the PGA TOUR this season, T8 at the WM Phoenix Open in February. The 47-year-old closed with a 3-under 67 to get to 17-under for outright second place.
Frenchman Romain Langasque claimed solo third place at 15-under. It was the 29-year-old’s 9th start at a PGA TOUR event for his first top 10 result.
Defending champion McIlroy shared fourth place at 14-under with Aaron Rai, Sungjae Im, Sahith Theegala, Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg.
The PGA TOUR remains in Scotland for next week’s Open Championship to be staged at Royal Troon Golf Club. America’s Brian Harman is the defending champion.
