Talor Gooch Creates LIV Golf History
Talor Gooch won LIV Singapore to become the first player ever to win back-to-back LIV Golf titles. The 31-year-old American, who collected his maiden LIV title last start at Adelaide, overcame Sergio Garcia in a playoff at Sentosa Golf Club. Gooch made a birdie at the first extra hole to win his second successive US$4 million bounty for finishing first in the individual contest.
Gooch and Garcia held the 36-hole lead at 13-under, one shot clear of Brooks Koepka. All three players carded a final round 4-under 67. Koepka, a two-time LIV Golf winner, took solo third place at 16-under, one shot out of the playoff. Gooch and Garcia finished at 17-under.
Gooch boasts owning the lead or sharing the lead at LIV Golf in the past six rounds. Sunday’s finish is the ninth time he’s led or shared a lead after a LIV round, the most by any player.
Garcia has enjoyed success at Sentosa having won the Singapore Open at the perfectly manicured layout in 2018. The Spaniard went bogey-free over the 47 holes before bogeys at the 12th and 15th holes on Sunday halted his efforts to win in regulation play. It was Garcia’s best finish at a LIV Golf event.
Australia’s Cameron Smith finished in seventh place. The reigning Open champion posted an even par 71 final round for a 12-under total.
RangeGoats won the Teams event carding 37-under. The emerging includes Bubba Watson (Team Captain), Talor Gooch, Thomas Pieters and Harold Varner III.
The LIV Golf Tour moves to America for LIV Golf Tulsa to be staged at Cedar Ridge Country Club from May 12 - 14.
