USA Claim The Solheim Cup Over Europe On Home Soil
Team USA defeated Team Europe 15.5 to 12.5 to regain the Solheim Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia. It is the first time the Americans have held the Solheim Cup since winning in 2017. America has won 11 out of the 19 Solheim Cup competitions since the event was inaugurated in 1990.
The Americans got off to a hot start on Friday outplaying the Europeans 3-1 in the morning session of Foursomes. The story was similar in the afternoon Fourball with the Americans again earning a 3-1 result to end Day One with an emphatic 6-2 lead.
Day Two was shared by the two teams with both sessions recording a 2-2 result. This gave the Americans a 10-6 lead heading into Sunday’s 12 singles matches.
England’s Charley Hull gave the Europeans some hope trouncing world No. 1 Nelly Korda 6&4. It was Hull’s largest career margin of victory at the Solheim Cup and Korda’s largest career defeat at the biennial team competition. The Americans won three of the next four matches to all but seal the contest victory. Lilia Vu enjoyed the honour of officially securing the Cup when she earned a half point in her match against Albane Valenzuela.
Rose Zhang boasted a 4-0-0 record to be undefeated throughout the Cup becoming the top points scorer for the Americans. Hull gained three points to be the top scorer for the Europeans.
