Webb & Henderson Score Big Titles

Australia’s Karrie Webb and Canada’s Brooke Henderson claimed prestigious wins on Sunday. Webb, aged 47, won the Senior LPGA Championship at Salina Country Club in Kansas. Henderson took out one of women’s golf signature events—The Amundi Evian Championship in France.

Webb notched her first win on the Legends Tour by four shots. The Hall of Famer overcame long-time rival Annika Sorenstam. The former world No. 1s finished well clear of the field. Webb led Sorenstam by two strokes heading into the final round after producing a superb bogey-free 6-under 66 on Saturday. The Queenslander rolled in six birdies and an eagle during her final round 5-under 67 to finish on top at 14-under. Sorenstam cared a final round 3-under 69 to reach 10-under. Laura Diaz finished solo third at 7-under.

Henderson made history in Europe. The 24-year-old became the first Canadian golfer to earn two major titles after her narrow one-shot victory at the picturesque Evian Resort Golf Club. The now 12-time LPGA Tour winner claimed her first major in 2016 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Henderson sealed the win with a clutch 8-foot birdie putt at the 72nd hole. She finished at 17-under after an even par final round. America’s Sophia Schubert took out second place at 16-under after a final round 3-under 68. The LPGA Tour rookie finished a shot ahead of five players: Mao Saigo (64), Lydia Ko (66), Charley Hull (67), Hyo Joo Kim (67) and Carlota Ciganda (68). The bunched leaderboard produced 13 lead changes during the tense final round.

Stephanie Kyriacou and Hannah Green were the best-placed Australians. The pair finished at 7-under and in a tie for 31st place.
