Minjee Lee
2021 Evian Championship
Australia’s Minjee Lee collected her maiden major title at the Evian Championship in France. By achieving her career best result, the 25-year-old from Western Australia matched the LPGA Tour record for scoring a win at a major when trailing the lead by seven shots after 54 holes.
Lee, who is a Srixon staffer, fired an incredible 7-under 64 on Sunday to reach the playoff where she overcame South Korea’s Jeongeun Lee6 at the first extra hole. Lee, who was the No. 1 ranked amateur golfer in the world in 2014, went bogey-free over her final 28 holes in regulation. The now six-time winner on the LPGA Tour posted 12 unanswered birdies during that time. She then completed her historic win with another red number at the first playoff hole.
Lee fired rounds of 68, 69, 65 and 64 at Evian Golf Club. Her 18-under tally included 23 birdies and two eagles. During her stunning final round, Lee found 10 out of 13 fairways from the tee and 16 from 18 greens in regulation.
With her win, Lee moved to 13th in the Race to CME Globe standings.
