Yuka Saso
2021 US Women's Open
Yuka Saso became the first player from the Philippines to win a golf major after claiming the coveted US Women’s Open title. The 19-year-old, who is just the second teenager to hoist the US Women’s Open, won the 76th staging of the major championship after holing a 10-foot birdie putt at the third playoff hole. Saso held off Japan’s Nasa Hataoka. Both players finished at 4-under after 72 holes at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Saso began her final round with back-to-back double bogeys at the 2nd and 3rd holes. The two-time winner on the Japan Tour rebounded with a birdie at the 7th hole before completing her round with consecutive birdies at the 16th and 17th holes. Saso’s win marks the seventh straight LPGA Tour major earned by a first-time winner.
With her win, Saso will bank US$1 million in prize money. She jumped 31 places to No. 9 on the Official World Rankings.
