Wife and Husband Earn Invitation To Drummond Golf Cup National Final

Anna and Dino Marzotto are Melbourne-bound after winning the Drummond Golf Cup ACT Championship on Sunday March 26. Staged at Fairbairn Golf Club, Canberra, the pair outlasted a full field to punch their tickets to Peninsula Kingswood Country Club in December.

Anna and Dino took up the game together 12 years ago at Duntroon Golf Club. Later this year, the Marzotto’s will travel to the Mornington Peninsula and compete at the Drummond Golf Cup National Final. It is the first time in the 10-year history of the Drummond Golf Cup a wife and husband have advanced to the DGC National Final.

Anna, playing off an 18-handicap, scored 33 points to win the Women’s Stableford competition. Her narrow one-point win was set up early covering her first 12 holes in even two’s for 24 points. Queanbeyan Golf Club member and past DGC ACT champion Gillian Maiden claimed second place with 32 points. Maiden won the DGC ACT Women’s Championship in 2016. Fellow Queanbeyan member Fiona White took out third place one point further back on 31 points.

Dino topped all Drummond Club members in the field with 38 points. The 19-handicapper staved off five male competitors who returned a score of 37 points to grab his invitation to the National Final. Dino’s consistent round included 16 two-pointers and two three-pointers. Local Fairbairn members Zac Brill-Luck, Jeffrey Clark, Noel Hamilton, Brian Dupree and Queanbeyan’s Darren Menz all returned 37 points. Menz was the DGC ACT Men’s champion in 2019.

Drummond Golf Ambassador Brett Ogle was at the par 3, 13th hole and dished out some handy tips as well as raising funds for Lifeline Australia.

The Drummond Golf Cup moves to Brookwater Golf Club on July 28 for the DGC Qld Championship.
