For those looking for a golf challenge in a beautiful location then this is the course for you.The course is only 78kms from Melbourne and is easily accessible from the Western Highway (follow the signs from Ballan).
Barwon Valley Golf Course is an affordable, picturesque 18 hole public course, bounded by the Barwon River on one side and wetlands with abundant bird life on the other. It is centrally located approximately 3 kilometres from the City Centre, and is equally suited to both high and low handicap golfers with the flat terrain also making walking a breeze, even though carts are available for hire. The course is excellently maintained with greens having long been recognised for their extremely high standard. The majority of fairways are also now Santa Anna couch which adds to the overall enjoyment. Green fee players and new Club members are always welcome and we pride ourselves in promoting a friendly atmosphere for all. The clubhouse and its facilities, including bar and snacks on match days, provides a great spot to relax and socialize. If you're a hardened golfer or totally new to the game, Cairns Golf Centre has plenty to offer you. It's easy to get to (on the Captain Cook Highway, at Yorkey's Knob – next to Go-karts, only 10 mins north from city centre), and has both a bay & grass, all weather Driving Range to get some swinging practice in. If you're totally useless at the big game, you can have a leisurely potter around the Mini Golf Course (putt-putt) or dads, just to give mum a break and bring the kids along to play on the mini golf course while you master your swing. If you are, however, an aspiring Tiger Woods in the making, check out the 6 holes par 3 course and bunkered chipping green. You can hire your clubs, mens, ladies, kids, left & right, or bring your own. There is a Golf Pro available (by appointment), so you can keep up the all-important practice. We also have a BBQ area which is great for parties, both kids & adults alike. Fun for all ages & skill levels, so bring the whole family for we are not just for golfers!

Beach Course The first of the two courses, The Beach Course was opened in December 2001 and designed by Tony Cashmore. Tanunda Pines Golf Club is located adjacent to the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort in the heart of the Barossa Valley, just one hours drive from Adelaide. Adelaide is blessed with several fine golf courses with Royal Adelaide, Kooyonga, The Grange and Glenelg at the top of the order. However there are others to consider as well, especially if one decides to visit the fabulous Barossa Valley wine region where Tanunda Pines weaves its fairways among 100 year old gnarly gums alive with what seems to be every variety of native parrot in the nation. The course itself has surprisingly sandy loam as a base. This makes for excellent, tightly packed fairways and fast greens. The great Scottish architect Alister Mackenzie visited Adelaide in the early 1920's and wrote: "The ideal hole is surely one that affords greatest pleasure to the greatest number, gives the fullest advantage for accurate play, stimulates players to improve their games and never becomes monotonous. Multiply that by 18 and you have an ideal golf course." Well, Tanunda Pines fits nicely into that description. Tee shots demand technique as much as power, approach shots that employ the old grey matter, tight fairways and fast greens- it's got the lot. -By Tom Ramsey
