Romsey Golf Club
Romsey Golf Club

Romsey Golf Course is part of Romsey Park; the park was established on October 15th 1883. Other regular users of the park are: The Romsey Scouts and Cubs, The Romsey Football, Cricket, Netball and Tennis clubs and the Romsey Recreation Centre where a wide variety of indoor sports competitions are held.
Romsey Golf Club is a completely volunteer organisation and has responsibility for almost 70% of the total area of the park. We receive no regular financial or other support from local, state or federal governments. The club takes the responsibility for such a large section of Romsey Park extremely seriously and has worked very hard to maintain and improve the park and the golf course.
The club has carried out strategic plantings of indigenous, native trees and bushes (240 planted in 2010, 135 planted in 2011 & 125 planted in 2012) to create a good environment for native insects, reptiles, birds and mammals, for carbon abatement, shade and wind control. We have also planted many beautification plants such as roses, lavenders, hebes and a wide variety of bulbs to add to the general beauty of Romsey Park. New greens, tees, bunkers and fairways add to the challenge of the golf course.
In September of 2012 the club applied for a grant under the Sport & Recreation Victoria (SRV) Minor
Facilities Fund. The application was for funds to help purchase and install a large storage tank, a
powerful electric pump and additional piping. Once these are in place the club will be able to connect
to the re-cycled water that is coming to the Romsey Sporting Precinct. If the application is successful
we will firstly irrigate the greens then, once we have good data on water usage, bring water to the tees then extend the irrigation system back up the fairways away from the greens. On September 26th the club was informed that our application had been approved by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council and recommended to SRV for their review. In mid October a representative from SRV, accompanied by a representative from the Shire of Macedon Ranges, visited the course to view the course and to discuss the various elements of the application. We must now wait until March/April for the committee to make a recommendation to the minister. Successful applications should be announced in May/June 2014.
Currently we have twelve greens, in the future additional greens may be added. The men’s course is 5,955 m, par 72 (ACR 72). The ladies’ course is 5,273 m, par 71 (AWCR 74).
