Ancer Outlasts Casey And Aussie Smith To Win LIV GOLF Hong Kong
Abraham Ancer collected his maiden LIV GOLF title at Hong Kong after overcoming Australia’s Cam Smith and England’s Paul Casey in a three-way playoff.
Ancer, aged 33 from Mexico, joined the breakaway tour in 2022. The one-time winner on the PGA Tour grasped his opportunity to hoist the LIV trophy after striking a clutch approach to the green at the first playoff hole. Ancer posted rounds of 63, 62 and 72 to reach 13-under.
Casey played his way into the playoff after producing a superb 6-under 64 final round. It was the veteran’s best finish at a LIV GOLF event from 21 starts.
Smith was searching for his fourth LIV GOLF title. The 30-year-old from Queensland posted a bogey-free 4-under 66 final round.
Chile’s Joaquin Niemann fired the lowest round on Sunday to move into contention for his third LIV GOLF win from the four events this season. Niemann closed with a 7-under 63 to reach 12-under, one shot out of the playoff. He was joined on that mark by Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz.
The Crushers GC won the Team event backing up their victory at Jeddah last start. The Bryson DeCambeau-led team, which includes Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri, combined for the winning 35-under total. Cam Smith’s all-Aussie Ripper GC took third place at 32-under.
LIV GOLF moves to Florida for LIV GOLF MIAMI to be staged at Trump National Doral on April 5-7.
