Nick Taylor Fires To Win WM Phoenix Open

Nick Taylor, aged 35, etched another memorable chapter in his career at the WM Phoenix Open, staging a remarkable comeback against Charley Hoffman.

The Canadian was three shots behind with just four holes remaining in regulation on Sunday at TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course. Taylor summoned his resilience, producing birdies at the 15th, 16th and 18th holes to card a final round 6-under 65. Taylor and Hoffman finished the 72 holes of regulation play at 21-under. Taylor sealed the thrilling victory holing an 11-foot birdie putt at the second playoff hole. On Thursday, Taylor opened the event with a stunning course record-matching 60. He held a remarkable five-shot lead into the second round to match the largest lead after 18 holes on the PGA TOUR since 1983.

The win is Taylor's fourth PGA TOUR title. Last year, he became the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national Open, making a 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole.

Hoffman was searching for his first win on the PGA Tour since 2016.  The 47-year-old moved into contention after posting an impressive 7-under 64 on Sunday.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished in a tie for third with compatriot Sam Burns at 18-under. Scheffler, the two-time reigning champion, briefly led during the final round as he was looking to become the first player to record the PGA TOUR's first three-peat in 13 years.

Adam Scott was the best-placed Australian. The 2013 Masters champion carded a final round 5-under 66 to reach 13-under for a tie in 8th place.
