Niemann Wins LIV Jeddah For Second Title In 2024
Joaquin Niemann is one of the hottest golfers on the planet! The 25-year-old from Chile scored a comfortable four-shot victory at LIV Golf Jeddah staged at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, Saudi Arabia. Niemann has won two of LIV Golf Tour’s three events this year after claiming the season-opener in Mexico at LIV Golf Mayakoba in a playoff over Sergio Garcia. The Chilean also won the Australian Open in December last year during the LIV Golf offseason. He also looms as a player to watch at The Masters in April with Augusta National Golf Club giving him a special invitation to compete this year.
Niemann fired a 4-under 66 on Sunday to reach 17-under. With his career-best form, Niemann advances to the top of the tour’s season-long individual Championship standings.
South African pair Louis Oosthuizen and Carl Schwartzel tied for second place at 13-under. Oosthuizen, who is captain of the Stingers GC, closed with a 3-under 67. Fellow Stinger GC team member Schwartzel carded a 2-under 68 in the final round. It was the 2011 Masters champion’s best finish on the LIV Golf Tour since claiming the break-away tour’s inaugural London event in 2022.
Bryson DeChambeau returned the best individual score on Sunday with a 8-under 62 moving him up the leaderboard into outright fourth place at 12-under. The stunning round steered his Crushers GC to a historic win. Crushers GC set a new LIV Golf Tour record for the biggest rally by any team in the final round coming back from 11 shots behind to win. DeChambeau’s team includes Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey.
Matt Jones was the best-placed Australian in the individual standings. Jones produced five birdies during his 4-under 66 final round to get to 8-under and finish in 14th place. The all-Aussie Ripper GC finished well back in the field in the team’s event settling for 9th place.
America’s Anthony Kim gave his long-awaited return to competition after 12 years. The 35-year-old, who owns three PGA Tour titles, finished in last place at 16-over, 33 shots back from Niemann.
LIV Golf Tour moves to Hong Kong Golf Club for LIV Hong Kong starting March 8.
