Scheffler The King At The Arnold Palmer Invitational
Scottie Scheffler scored an emphatic five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Florida. It is the second time he has been crowned with the coveted title after winning in 2022. The 27-year-old American was unstoppable on Sunday firing a bogey-free 6-under 66 while playing ion the final group. The superb round was the lowest score posted during the final round by two shots.
Scheffler carded rounds of 70, 67, 70 and 66 to reach 15-under. His five-shot victory was the largest margin at the event since Tiger Woods in 2012. It was the world No. 1’s seventh PGA TOUR title. And, his first PGA TOUR win in 19 starts. His previous success came at the 2022 THE PLAYERS Championship, which he also won by five shots.
Wyndham Clark produced a birdie at the final hole to take solo second place at 10-under. Clark, who is the reigning US Open champion, signed for a 2-under 70 final round.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry claimed outright third place one shot further back at 9-under. The 36-year-old, who won the 2019 Open Championship, produced an even par final round.
Americans Russell Henley and Will Zalatoris took a share of fourth place at 7-under. Both players covered the final day with an even par round. Zalatoris booked himself a spot in The Open for being the best-placed player in the field not already exempt.
Cam Davis was the best-placed Australian in the field. The 29-year-old from Sydney, fired a 2-under 70 to finish at 2-under for the event and in a tie for 18th place.
The PGA TOUR remains in Florida for next week’s THE PLAYERS Championship to be staged at TPC Sawgrass. Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion.
