What’s In My Bag
Collin Morikawa
2021 The Open Championship
Collin Morikawa scored his second major victory after winning The Open Championship at Royal St George’s, England. At his first Open appearance, the 24-year-old American overcame compatriot Jordan Spieth by two shots.
Morikawa, a TaylorMade staffer, made two significant changes to his equipment at Royal St George’s, which proved instrumental in achieving victory. The now five-time PGA Tour winner added 10 grams of weight to his TaylorMade TP Juno putter on the eve of the Open Championship after learning he needed more mass to reach the hole on slower greens. He also changed his iron set up following his experience of playing at the Scottish Open the previous week. Morikawa exchanged the TaylorMade P730 iron for the P7MC model in his 7 though to 9 iron. Due to the different sole geometry of the two models, the P7MC provided better turf interaction to combat the firmer and tighter links turf.
With his win, Morikawa moved to 1st in the FedExCup standings.
